Unit 2 Chapter Plan: "The Architecture Nobody Could Evaluate"
Owning Citizens' Dreams — Textbook
Target length: ~17,500 words
Opening — The Expanding Circle (~2,000 words)
Opens with the MOCSIE diagram itself, not autobiography. Describe what a 2026 reader sees when they look at the expanding-circle model from the 2014 paper. Walk through six media campaigns, six policy campaigns, tiered drill-downs, algorithmic retrieval. Then the reveal: designed 2007–2014, before GPT-1, before transformer architecture. Reader's first experience of the central claim should be visual and technical, not argumentative.
Source docs needed: v4 (Romanian paper), IGI Global chapter
Section 1 — The Dissertation Genealogy (~3,000 words)
Intellectual trajectory as narrowing story: v4's full ambition → v8's grand theory → committee's response → v24's empirical reduction → Masters en Passant. Not grievance. Honest account of what happens when interdisciplinary systems architecture meets discipline-bound evaluation. Committee was procedurally correct. That's the point.
Source docs needed: All four (v4, v8, v24, IGI Global)
Section 2 — The Neurodivergent Systems-Builder (~2,500 words)
Autism diagnosis, Kohs Block Design 99.9th percentile, cognitive profile explaining the architecture. Autoethnographic register — author's mind as evidence. Why committee saw over-engineering while architect saw unified system. Not confession; methodology.
Source docs needed: Forbidden Friends "Too Much of a Good Thing" chapter; diagnostic narrative
Section 3 — The Migration into Fiction (~2,000 words)
How theoretical architecture that couldn't survive as dissertation found expression as Confluence trilogy world-building. Howard Andrews as MOCSIE's creator. Animal Farm as democratically governed AI. Speculative fiction as where the research lived when the academy couldn't house it.
Source docs needed: Allegory Protocol worldbuilding (wb-allegory-claude-html-summary), Soybeans worldbuilding (wb-soybeans-claudehtml)
Section 4 — The Technology Didn't Exist Yet. It Does Now. (~3,000 words)
Detailed technical comparison: MOCSIE component by component → contemporary AI architecture. Scholarly core — evidence for temporal validation.
Protractor rating = RLHF
Algorithmic retrieval of narrative threads = RAG
Consensus-building metadata = domain-expert curation
Emergent narrative communities = adaptive AI ecosystems
"Algorithms shaped by PA academics" = alignment
Each comparison documented with citations to 2014 source AND post-2022 AI literature.
Source docs needed: IGI Global chapter (primary), v4
Section 5 — The System (~1,500 words)
AI throughline section. Pedagogical reframe: if designing AI governance from scratch today, what would it look like? Show answer converges with MOCSIE.
Section 6 — Case Study: Institutional Evaluation Failure (~1,500 words)
Author's trajectory generalized. What other innovations sit in filing cabinets, rejected because evaluation frameworks couldn't accommodate them?
Section 7 — The Story (~1,000 words)
Companion reading assignments and discussion questions for Forbidden Friends and Allegory Protocol.
Section 8 — The Field (~1,000 words)
Student exercise: find something rejected procedurally, write temporal validation argument.
Voice Calibration
Professional-personal. First person where autobiography demands it (Sections 2, 3). Scholarly register where analysis demands it (Sections 1, 4, 5). Reader should feel taught by someone who earned the right to use their own life as evidence — not someone processing trauma on the page.
